Hi, I'm Nathaniel š
Front end React web developer currently working for Hastings Direct. Student at the University of Sussex

About
For me, every day is a chance to learn something new. Iām passionate about computer science and front-end development, but I also love game design and building computers! Outside of tech, I enjoy hitting the gym šŖ, going on hikes š„¾, and playing guitar šø.

Experience
I have gained plenty of valuable experience during my time as a Developer, these are the main experiences which have helped shape my career.

University of Sussex
September 2022 - June 2026
Student
Here I studied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. I completed course works, exams and participated in Events. I met loads of interesting people and secured a solid foundation to grow my career on.

Sainsburys
October 2022 - December 2022
Online Assistant
Here I worked over winter handling the delivery, refilling and logistics of food delivery trucks. I also worked on the store floor dealing with customers and fetching groceries for the online shop customers. It was a super stressful experience but I enjoyed meeting new people and getting the opportunity to help people out.

Hastings Direct
September 2024 - September 2025
Year in Industry
This placement was an amazing experience in which I learnt and developed my Industry standards and discovered my passion for Website development. I did several certifications (see my linked in) and met loads of highly skilled senior developers who I became acquainted with.

Coursera Meta Advanced React
October 2024 - October 2024
Online Course
At my time at Hastings I invested sometime into getting more familiar with React by attempting this one month course learning React. It involved lots of programming challenges and a end of course test to create a portfolio! It was super worth the time and it has really helped me excel in front end development.
Skills
Here are the main skills I have developed throughout my time at University, working, and self-studying. These are just the technical skills I have acquired, and there are plenty of interpersonal skills I haven't included.
Projects
Here are some of my favouite projects I have worked on. They are all open source and were great learning experiences. I have plenty more projects in development and i list them on my Github profile page!
Samuels Website
Another portfolio website for my friend Samuel who works in vintage aircraft restoration and airshows. It features capabilities to add and delete images online to the gallery page, working contact forms and plenty of interesting sections displaying his skills in the industry. I hope the website serves him well and document his journey.
Kyes Portfolio Website
This is a portfolio project I created for a friend of a friend which allows him to showcase his work as an Astrophysicist (Images of space). I enjoyed making it and it was a good experience working closely with a client, it was my first commissioned work and I'm happy that it went so well.
Elaines Website
A tailored website developed for my older sisters brand, showcasing the services she provides, brands she's worked for, samples and more. It took a lot of time to get the design to a place where I felt it portrayed her personality and gave light to her amazing work.
SQL GUI
For experience I attempted to build my own SQL database graphical user interface from scratch using Pycharm. While it is a bit awkward and not the most user friendly it does function well and can be used for viewing and interacting with databases.

Project Manager App
A useful project manager app I created on IOS which lets you create a project; assign it a name, target end date, and tasks to be completed. I use it now when I am developing a new project and its super handy. Unfortunately I couldn't publish on the app store without paying apples fees but the source code is available.

World Conquest Course Work
This was my second year University course work submission for my software engineering module. I was responsible for designing the entire game in the project and it was a good learning experience. The game feels alright but doesn't look as good as initially hoped due to running out of time and team members leaving. There are some bugs but please do try it out using the website link below!
Hackathons
These are all the Hackathons I have attended. I have learnt so much and met so many interesting people throughout these events, some of which I even got to Help out with! One of the rewards in the 2024 Hackathon helped me land my first proper job as a developer at Hastings Direct!

Hack Sussex Game Jam: Rubiks Racer
At Sussex University, Brighton | November 25, 2023
This was my first game jam at University and it was a fantastic first experience. There were points where the entire project almost completely caved in with git corruption errors and unity acting up but we managed to pull it off and win my very first award which was ironically a Rubik's cube. The game is super simple but super fun, you can try it out with the website link below.

Hack Sussex Hackathon: Hasting Highways
At Sussex University, Brighton | February 17, 2024
This was my best Hackathon to date, I worked with my friends to create a game submission for the Hastings Direct track. The game we made was a driving simulator focused around the idea of insurance and we managed to win the award! This gave me a fast track interview for the placement role which I managed to get!

Hack Sussex Game Jam: Planet Plunger
At Sussex University, Brighton | November 30, 2024
This game jam was an amazing experience and I was super hyped to do the events. I wasn't as happy with the result but I learnt a lot and made some new friends. There was a lot of confusion with the name so there are a few different titles.
